Our resort is therefore an idea base for many of the most beautiful excursions in Sardinia
LE GROTTE DI NETTUNO (NEPTUNE'S GROTTO)
A visit to the beautiful Grotte di Nettuno is definitely a must. You can reach the grotto on a fabulous boat trip from the port of Alghero that weaves right along the coast before reaching its destination. Inside the grotto, created by millions of years of freshwater movement, is the Lake La Marmora (120 m long), numerous columns of stalactites and stalagmites and a small beach, once used by the Mediterranean monk seals.
L’ASINARA
The island of Asinara, located in the far north west of Sardinia, was a location for pirate incursions back in the time of the Saracens, but its more recent history has made it famous. In fact, in the 1970s it was made into a top security prison, mainly for mafia and terrorists, which included Totò Riina who was locked up in a bunker in the delightful village of Cala d'Oliva. In 1991 the island became part of the National Park of Golfo di Orosei, Gennargentu and Asinara and became a protected area. There are over 80 species of terrestrial vertebrates on the island today belonging to the amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal classes. However, this number does not give any idea of the importance of the island on an international level for the conservation and reproduction of the wild fauna that includes very rare species threatened with extinction, including the famous albino donkey which, after being introduced to the island at the beginning of the 19th century, was probably abandoned by its inhabitants at the end of the XIX century.
CAPO FALCONE
The promontory of Capo Falcone is the far north western point of Sardinia. It is marked by widespread Mediterranean maquis inside which, on the coastal part, there are some residential complexes that fit in well with the natural setting. It is named after a Saracen tower called Torre del Falcone, an ancient defence rampart towering over the hill. The rock is granitic and its unusual appearance has made it famous as the "Pietra di Stintino" (Stintino stone) which is used for embellishing many houses in the area. The growth of tourism over recent decades is mainly due to La Pelosa beach on the north coast opposite Asinara.
LA PELOSA
The beach of La Pelosa is definitely one of the most beautiful in Sardinia.
Many people say that it is the beach with the most enchanting water in Italy. Its turquoise colour and transparency, as well as its very fine white sand, give it the appearance of a tropical beach rather than a Mediterranean one. Apart from the absence of tropical fish, it is the vegetation that reminds us we are in Sardinia; not palms, but Mediterranean maquis at the edge and even on the beach itself.
